Ricky Gervais is back hosting the Golden Globes. There are going to be many upsets tonight in the television field, but hopefully Gervais keeps the show moving. Remember, the Golden Globes are always the indicator for the Oscars. Keep refreshing for all the updates.
Here we go:
5:00 – Ricky Gervais starts his rip on Hollywood. Nothing off limits, from Jodie Foster’s “beaver” and Justin Bieber’s paternity test.
5:05 – Gervais welcomes Johnny Depp and asks if he has seen The Tourist yet. He then shows Hugo for the first nominee in Best Motion Picture – Drama.
5:10 – Best Supporting Actor in a Movie is Christopher Plummer for his work in Beginners.
5:13 – Ashton Kutcher with his new haircut helps introduce Best Actress in a Televsion Series – Comedy or Musical. Laura Dern wins for Enlightened, a show that has not been too loved by critics yet.
5:19 – Rob Lowe and Julianne Moore are having difficulty with the teleprompter. They introduce Miss Golden Globe, the daughter of famed actress Andie MacDowell. Best Mini-Series of TV Movie winner is Downton Abbey.
5:23 – Lowe and Moore now introduce the Best Actress in Mini-Series or TV Movie category with Kate Winslet winning for Mildred Pierce. With names like Winslet and Diane Lane in categories like this, and Dern winning earlier, I’m still surprised how many movie stars are heading towards television. Winslet is the first winner to get the “get off the stage” music.
5:26 – Midnight in Paris is shown as a nominee for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
5:32 – The usual “this is what the Golden Globes” does speech. For those of you wondering, yup, that guy up there – Jeremy Irons, is Scar from The Lion King.
5:33 – My Week with Marilyn is shown as nominee for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
5:34 – Gervais is back telling the audience to keep speeches short. He introduces Melissa McCarthy and Paula Patton. Best Actor in Television Series – Drama goes to Kelsey Grammer for Boss. First shock of the night. He got a nice round of applause though.
