Depending on what shows you watch on ABC, you could be very happy today, or you could be very upset. The network has given renewal notices to Speechless (season 3) and Splitting Up Together (season 2), while canceling third season drama Quantico and sophomore season drama Designated Survivor.
Speechless has been a consistently average performer for ABC, with the Minnie Driver led comedy averaging around a 1.1 throughout most of the season. The series follows the DiMeo family who helps navigate life with their oldest son JJ, who has cerebral palsy.
Splitting Up Together stars Jenna Fischer (The Office) and Oliver Hudson (Rules of Engagement), as a recently separated couple who decides to still live in the same house. The series is Executive Produced by Ellen DeGeneres.
After a strong freshmen year, Quantico stumbled through its sophomore effort. It’s current third season was held for midseason and debuted at a paltry 0.5 in the 18-49 and less than 3 million viewers.
Designated Survivor seemed to be Kiefer Sutherland’s great comeback after Touch failed to resonate with viewers. However, many fans were tired of the thriller aspect of the series, and when the show returned for season 2 feeling much more like The West Wing, it was too little too late.
