Everyone knew that when Roseanne premiered last night that the show would do well in the ratings. However, it can be safe to assume no one believed it would do a 5.2 in the 18-49 demographic and pull in 18.2 million viewers. That is much higher than Will & Grace’s return at a 3.0 18-49 and 10.2 million viewers. It is also higher than Young Sheldon’s debut at 3.8/17.2 million.
In fact, Roseanne’s debut was higher than its own final 12 episodes back in the 90s. ABC must be extremely happy with its results, reaching highs in the 8pm timeslot since November 2006 and 8:30 in November 2009.
It’ll be interesting to see if the ratings can stay this high, with Will & Grace stabilizing in the mid 1.0’s for the 18-49 demo and around 5 million viewers.
