“Star Wars: Episode VIII” gets title


It was announced earlier today that Episode VIII of Star Wars will be titled The Last Jedi. Fans have been speculating for months on what the title would be, andso far fan reaction has been fairly positive. The Last Jedi takes place immediately after The Force Awakens, something that hasn’t been seen in the series before.

Rian Johnson (Looper) handled both writing and directing duties for The Last Jedi, which is set to hit theaters on December 15h. Johnson is also writing the story treatment for Episode IX, which is to be adapted by Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) and Derek Connolly, with Trevorrow directing.

The Last Jedi will also be Carrie Fisher’s last time playing Princess Leia on screen. Fisher passed away on December 27th, 2016 and Lucasfilm has announced they will not bring her back through CGI or another actress.
