Zendaya’s role revealed to be Mary Jane Watson for “Spider-Man: Homecoming”

The Wrap has reported today that Zendaya, who was originally reported to play a character named Michelle, will in fact be playing Mary Jane Watson in the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming. Sony has not confirmed this report, although it has been verified through many sources.

Mary Jane was portrayed by Kirsten Dunst in the original trilogy, and was not in The Amazing Spider-Man series, with Sony opting to focus on Peter’s relationship with Gwen Stacy instead.

Spider-Man: Homecoming will follow a teenage Peter Parker (Tom Holland) facing off a villain played by Michael Keaton. Robert Downey, Jr. is set to reprise his role as Tony Stark, with Marisa Tomei, Donald Glover, and Tyne Daly also added to the cast.

The film is currently being filmed, with a July 7, 2017 release date planned.

How do you feel about Zendaya playing the beloved Mary Jane Watson? Who would you have cast? Sound off below!
