ABC renews “Dr. Ken” for a second season

It’s been hard for ABC to find a comedy to last more than one season on their Friday comedy block at 8:30 PM. After Malibu Country starring Reba failed in the 2012-2013 season, they brought Neighbors to slot in 2013-2014 only to be canceled, followed by Cristela in the 2014-2015 slot. Dr. Ken, starring Ken Jeong, is the first to break that trend.

The series has maintained steady results behind Last Man Standing, averaging around a 1.1 in the 18-49 and 5 million viewers. The show has done well with bringing in former Community stars like Joel McHale, Danny Pudi, and Jim Rash to create some buzz.

There is no word yet on if Last Man Standing will return for a sixth season, but rumors are that the prospects look positive.
