ABC cancels “Castle” after 8 seasons, and “Agent Carter” after 2 + “Galavant”

In another surprising move by ABC, they have canceled Castle after 8 seasons, while canceling Agent Carter after two. The latter move isn’t surprising as the network picked up Hayley Atwell’s new series Conviction.

Castle being canceled saves fans from wondering what Castle would look like without Beckett, since they were not bringing back star Stana Katic for season 9. Stars Nathan Fillion, Seamus Deaver, Jon Huertas, Molly Quinn and Susan Sullivan all recently closed deals to come back if the show was renewed. Tamala Jones was let go along with Katic.

Agent Carter has been a midseason replacement for Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD that never took off the way ABC wanted. Peggy Carter was a strong character in Captain America: The First Avenger, but her own series was rather lackluster.
