While reviews from most critics have been harsh, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice debuted to $82 million Friday, including $27.7 million from Thursday previews. This gave the film the fourth best opening ever, behind Avengers: Age of Ultron sitting at $84.4 million at third place and above Jurassic World’s $81.9, dropping that film to fifth.

If the film continues its current trend, it should finish the weekend north of $160 million, and closer to $170. That would make it the biggest opening weekend for any DC Comic movie, the largest March opening ever, and would have it fall within the top ten largest opening weekends of all-time.
Batman v Superman was always going to be a tough film to make, bringing DC’s two biggest franchises together, but fanboys and fangirls alike are still flocking to see it, bad reviews or not. Fan response has been almost a 180 of the critics, praising the film, the cast, and the set up for the Justice League.
