Today was a good day if you were one of the 11 shows CBS announced for renewal. It wasn’t such a good day if you were veteran shows Criminal Minds, CSI: Cyber or any of the current freshmen series.
The Tiffany network renewed comedies Mom and 2 Broke Girls, dramas NCIS: Los Angeles, Blue Bloods, NCIS: New Orleans, Hawaii Five-0, Madam Secretary, Elementary and Scorpion as well as reality shows Survivor and The Amazing Race.
There is cause for concern that Criminal Minds won’t be renewed, as the series is ending its 11th season, and original star Shemar Moore departed with this week’s episode. The series has always been costly for the network, and ratings have finally started showing their age. CSI: Cyber hasn’t done well ratings wise stateside, but is a massive hit overseas, where the CSI franchise continues to be a big hit.
None of the current slate of frosh series are renewed yet, with CBS President Les Moonves originally saying they will renew five of that current slate. It seems like the network is waiting to see if Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders‘ ratings hold, and to see what Rush Hour does in a few weeks. Limitless has continued to struggle after its full season pickup, while Code Black was always hovering around the bubble.
