Damon Wayans, Jr set to return to “New Girl”, again

The journey for Coach (Damon Wayans, Jr.) has been nothing but a revolving door on the New Girl set. Wayans, Jr. originally filmed the pilot episode, but his sitcom Happy Endings was renewed at the same time, meaning he couldn’t appear in both shows simultaneously. He came back in a recurring arc in the third season before returning as a full fledged cast member for season four, departing at the end of that season. He is now coming back for the final two episodes of season five.

The final two episodes coincide with Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece’s (Hannah Simone) wedding, which should allow a lot of humor among the characters leading up to the wedding day. The fifth season has had its up and downs, with star Zooey Deschanel gone for maternity leave and Megan Fox stepping in during the interim, and sagging ratings.

There is no word yet if New Girl will be back for a sixth season, but for a series that has helped relaunch Fox’s comedy block, it’d probably be assumed they’d do at least a limited return for a proper farewell.
