Did Arnold Schwarzenegger confirm “Terminator 6”?

Terminator-Genisys Arnold SchwarzeneggerJust when the Internet writes the Terminator franchise off as old and obsolete, its series star may have given it new life.

Star Arnold Schwarzenegger was interviewed on Australia’s Channel 9 news last week. Host Richard Wilkins asked the action star about the possibility of a Terminator 6 film, to which Schwarzenegger replied “I am looking forward to it, absolutely.”

This comes as a surprise to many, as most of the Internet wrote off the franchise after the release of Terminator Genisys. The film was considered a box office and critical failure despite earning $440 million worldwide, the second highest grossing film in the franchise behind 1991’s Terminator 2: Judgement Day. Although it under preformed at the U.S. Box Office (it earned $89 million), it was released during the Jurassic World craze and sandwiched between Ted 2 and Magic Mike XXL. Despite its poor U.S. performance, it was a global box office success…. enough to convince Paramount Pictures to remove planned sequels in 2017 and 2019 from its future release schedule.

Schwarzenegger’s comments breaks the silence by any of the cast and crew involved in the franchise since Genisys’s release. But is it a sign that the studio is considering a sequel or is it just Schwarzenegger stating his desire to make another Terminator film?

That remains to be seen. After all, the future is never written in stone.
