It was announced today that Royal Pains will be ending after its upcoming eighth season, per USA. The series has been a staple for USA since 2009 and was among the slew of hits including Psych and White Collar that helped launch USA to its current place in cable TV.
Royal Pains stars Mark Feuerstein as Dr. Hank Lawson, a concierge doctor in the Hampton’s. The series co-stars Paulo Costanzo, Reshma Shetty, Brooke D’Orsay, and Campbell Scott.
The news isn’t too surprising as USA truncated the amount of episodes seasons seven and eight would get when the series was renewed for two more seasons in 2014. Royal Pains usually aired 13-16 episodes, but the seventh and upcoming season only have eight each.
USA has had some trouble recently launching new series, as a similar series called Rush failed last year, as well as Complications, Dig, and Sirens lasting less than two years. Keeping Royal Pains on the bench could’ve been smart for the cable network that only has Suits and Mr. Robot as current hits.
