Zendaya nabs role in new “Spider-Man” film

It was reported today by Deadline that Disney star Zendaya has landed a lead role in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot. Zendaya won’t be taking over the role of Mary Jane or Gwen that were made famous by Kirsten Dunst and Emma Stone in the first and second versions of the series. Instead, Zendaya will be playing a character named Michelle.

Tom Holland is set to take reigns as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and will be first seen in the upcoming movie Captain America: Civil War. This is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe film to feature Spidey since Marvel Studios and Sony reached a deal to include the web-slinger in the films.

The first stand-alone Spider-Man film to feature Holland will debut July 7, 2017, and it’s produced by Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige and directed by Jon Watts.

Zendaya became popular in the Disney Channel series Shake It Up! that also launched the stardom of Bella Thorne. Zendaya can currently be seen on the Disney Channel series K.C. Undercover.
