It was announced today during the TCA winter press tour that TNT’s highest-rated series Rizzoli & Isles would end after its upcoming seventh season.
“I think both ladies have had a really satisfying experience,” TNT head Kevin Reilly said. “I don’t know that they wouldn’t do any more, but they felt very comfortable…that it’s had a good run. It felt like it was time. Everyone said, ‘Let’s go out and finish 13 great ones and call it a day.'”
There have been rumblings that the series might be on its way out after the smaller than normal size of the episode order (13 instead of the usual 15 to 18) and that the network has been trying to find programs a bit edgier than the procedural fare it has.
However, those series haven’t made a big splash on the network, as TNT has canceled most of its newer series like Legends, Agent X and Public Morals have all been canceled. Rizzoli & Isles still maintains a solid 0.7 in the 18-49 and over 4 million viewers per week.
