After a strong start this year, NBC has given hit drama Chicago Med an additional five episodes this season, bringing its total to 18. While slightly down from a normal full season of 22, the series debuted later in the year in Mid-November. NBC did a similar thing when Chicago PD debuted, giving an additional 2 episodes giving it 15 for its first year (PD debuted in January of 2014).
The series, the third in the Chicago Fire franchise, is the brainchild of Dick Wolf and stars Nick Gehlfuss, Yaya DaCosta, Torrey DeVitto, Rachel DiPillo, Colin Donnell, Brian Tee, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Oliver Platt.
This bodes well for the series, as it seems that all three of the Chicago series will be renewed for next season. All three are averaging 1.5-2.0 in the 18-49 for NBC, ranking among the highest watched shows for the network.
