It was reported earlier today that Fox has ordered six additional scripts for freshmen comedies Grandfathered and The Grinder. Both series have been met with critical acclaim (with The Grinder slightly higher), but neither have been ratings darlings. This week Grandfathered had a 1.0 in the 18-49 demographic, while The Grinder fared a bit worse with a 0.9.
Grandfathered, starring John Stamos and Josh Peck, is produced by ABC Studios and has had slightly better ratings than The Grinder so far this season. Produced in house by 20th Century Fox, The Grinder stars Rob Lowe and Fred Savage.
Additional script orders are not the same as a pick up for additional episodes. A script order gives the network the ability to see where the show will be heading to see if they want to pick up the additional episodes. Six additional episodes would bring the total to 19 for both shows, which is slightly lower than a normal season’s count of 22.
Grandfathered and The Grinder will be airing new episodes next Tuesday, before hitting the bench on Oct. 27 for the World Series.
