Tom Cruise is back as Ethan Hunt, and this time the stakes have never been higher.
Paramount Pictures released the full length teaser trailer for Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation on Monday, one day after releasing a 1 minute teaser promoting the trailer. The fifth entry in the film franchise based off the popular ’60 action/adventure series sees the Head of the CIA (Alec Baldwin) propose that the government shut down the IMF program. At the same time, IMF agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) is tracked down by the Syndicate, a highly trained organization of rogue assassins that kill on order. With the help of his colleagues, Ethan plans to bring down the Syndicate by any means necessary.
The film features the return of past IMF characters including computer hacker Luther Stickell (Ving Rhames), IMF field agent William Brandt (Jeremy Renner) and IMF technical field agent Benji Dunn (Simon Pegg), all of whom were part of Hunt’s team in 2011’s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. Notably absent from the cast are Paula Patton and Maggie Q, both of whom were key members on Ethan’s IMF teams in Ghost Protocol and Mission: Impossible III, respectively. Newcomers to the franchise are Alec Baldwin, Sean Harris (The Borgias) and Rebecca Ferguson (Hercules).
Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher), written by Drew Pearce & Will Staples, and produced by Tom Cruise, J.J. Abrams and David Ellison, the film will release world wide on July 31, 2015.
