After disappointing box office results for After Earth, it seemed more important than ever for Will Smith to come back to the big screen with a hit. However, that doesn’t appear to be happening with Focus. Results coming in this weekend show that the film opened to about $19.1 million, down from the projected $20-$21 million.
With only $19.1 million, Focus falls behind The Pursuit of Happyness ($26.5) and Enemy of the State ($20 million), as one of Smith’s lowest grossing films to date. A few of the only ones that debuted lower were Seven Pounds ($14.8 million) and Ali ($14.7 million).
The other big opening flick, the horror film The Lazarus Effect, starring Olivia Wilde, debuted to $10.6 million. Elsewhere, Kingsman held on to the 2nd place spot, bringing in $11.7 million, bringing the film’s three week total to $85 million. SpongeBob brought in another $11.2 million for a $140 million four week total. Fifty Shades continues to drop, nabbing $10.9 in week three for $147 million.

Worth noting that the Snow and Ice storms on the East Coast hasn’t helped much for the Box Office this week. Details from Deadline: http://deadline.com/2015/03/will-smith-focus-weekend-box-office-opening-lazarus-effect-1201383452/
That has happened in the past too, but 50 Shades still broke records when there was a snowstorm. It’s just fan excuse bingo.
Well, people aren’t exactly bringing cucumbers into “Focus”….
