The network announced on Friday that it has given Forever a full season pickup. The drama, which airs Tuesday nights at 10 PM, stars Ioan Gruffudd (Fantastic Four) as Dr. Henry Morgan, a New York medical examiner who studies the dead for criminal cases and to solve the mystery of his own immortality. Forever had an impressive debut back in September, with the pilot scoring 6.9 million total viewers and a 1.8 rating, which gave ABC its best debut in four years in the Tuesday at 10 PM timeslot. Since then, according to Entertainment Weekly, the show has struggled in the ratings, with the most recent episode scoring a 1.2 rating among adults 18-49 and 4.9 million viewers in the next-day numbers. However, Forever benefits from strong numbers due to DVR, with the season averaging 7.6 million viewers and a 1.9 rating.
Forever joins the list of freshman shows that have been given a chance to air into the spring, including How to Get Away with Murder, Black-ish, Gotham, Scorpion, NCIS: New Orleans, Madam Secretary, Stalker, The Flash and Jane the Virgin.
