ABC releases “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” Season 2 teaser

Yesterday, ABC released the teaser trailer for the Season 2 premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The trailer features a voice-over by Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg), who was promoted to director of rebuilding S.H.I.E.L.D. from the ashes by Nick Fury in the Season 1 finale.

Among the images seen from the first season, we get our first look at Grant Ward (Brett Dalton) since his arrest after it was revealed that he was part of HYDRA. We even got a look at Skye (Chloe Bennet) potentially stepping up as a mix of Melinda May meets Natasha Romanoff in the upcoming season.

Clark Gregg had this to say about the direction of Season 2 (via ComicBookResources):

The monumental nature of [rebuilding] is made very clear almost immediately, because you realize everyone – US government, US military and other wise – wants to arrest us. S.H.I.E.L.D.’s illegal. We have very few resources. Everything we’re going to do involves dealing with, still, finding out who’s Hydra and who’s not amongst our friends. To rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D., we’re going to need some old friends to prove themselves, some new friends, and we’re going to have to do it in a way that’s very back alley, old school.

Season 2 will also feature guest stars such as Lucy Lawless, Adrianne Palicki, Kyle MacLachlan, Henry Simmons and Reed Diamond.

There hasn’t been much information on how Season 2 will tie in with future films such as Avengers: Age of Ultron. However, we already know the blue alien that was key to Coulson’s resurrection (Project T.A.H.I.T.I.) was a Krill, a prominent alien species seen in Guardians of the Galaxy. ABC also green lit the new series Agent Carter last spring, which would chronicle S.H.I.E.L.D.’s early days. Since both shows would take place in the same cinematic universe, it’s entirely likely some events seen in one show could be continued in the other.

Season 2 premieres on Tuesday September 23rd at a new time (9:00 EST/8:00 CST).
