Marvel releases first image of Paul Rudd in “Ant-Man”

After numerous production bumps, from changes in directors to change in writers, production on Ant-Man has begun. To celebrate the occasion, Marvel Entertainment tweeted this first production image of Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man:

As you can tell, he’s lacking the signature Ant-Man costume of red spandex and a silver helmet. If anything, he looks more like a bank-robber from Grand Theft Auto V. Why would he be dressed like this? Well, when Marvel released the film Synopsis last June, they made it clear that Ant-Man was going to be a heist film:

“Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.”

Director Peyton Reed also stated the movie would have a “passing of the torch” theme to it, passing the torch from the old Ant-Man (Hank Prym) to the new Ant-Man (Scott Lang). Reed also mentioned that the plot in Ant-Man would have a link to Avengers: Age of Ultron. Since Ant-Man is part of Phase Three and Age of Ultron is the final film of Phase 2, it’ll be interesting to see how much of the latter film will carry over into Ant-Man.
