Lucy Lawless to join Season 2 of “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

If you enjoyed the first season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and geeked out during the show’s final episodes, the second season will tap out more from your inner nerd.

Lucy Lawless Agents of Shield

Lucy Lawless joins “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. in an unknown role

Days before Comic Con is set to begin, reports that actress Lucy Lawless, widely known as Xena in Xena: Warrior Princess and Lucretia in Spartacus, will join the hit series for its second season, which will premiere September 23rd on ABC.

There’s no word from Marvel about what what role Lawless will partake in Season 2. Whether she’s part of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hydra, or some other organization, you’d have to have Level 10 clearance from Nick Fury to find out that information. In the meantime, we’ll just have to wait and see what develops for Lawless’s role.

After S.H.I.E.L.D. turned into ruins due to the events of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Season 2 promises to shape an intense future for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Agent Coulson attempts to rebuild S.H.I.E.L.D., and the actions of Coulson and his team  could potentially have a major impact as the show leads up to next year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron.

There are also reports that Cobie Smulders will see more extensive screen time as Maria Hill after How I Met Your Mother ended last spring. If Lawless ends up being apart of S.H.I.E.L.D., a combination of her, Hill, and Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) kicking butt on the small screen is sure to boost interest in the upcoming season.
