Marvel has finally found its Kingpin for the upcoming 13-episode limited Daredevil series.
On Tuesday, Marvel revealed that Vincent D’Onofrio (Men in Black, Full Metal Jacket) will play Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin. For those who don’t know the comics, Kingpin is an adversary of Spider-Man and Daredevil and is one of the most feared and powerful crime lords in the Marvel universe. According to Marvel, D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin was described as a “powerful businessman whose interests in the future of Hell’s Kitchen will bring him into conflict with the blind attorney Matt Murdock and his alter ego Daredevil.”
D’Onofrio’s casting marks his return to a television show since Law & Order: Criminal Intent, where he played Detective Robert Goren for show’s ten seasons. Instead of fighting the war on crime, D’Onofrio joins the other side, co-starring with Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil).
This marks the third live action casting of Wilson Fisk. John Rhys-Davies first played the character in the 1989 TV film The Trial of the Incredible Hulk. Comic book movie fans are likely to remember the most recent portrayal of the character, played by Michael Clarke Duncan in the 2003 film adaption starring Ben Affleck.
Filming for the series will commence this July in New York City.
