It looks as though LucasArts is now one with the force. Founded in May of 1982 this group had a hand in just about every Star Wars videogame that was made, and as of April 3, they are now shutdown.
Disney’s choice to shutdown the studio leaves me a little conflicted. From a business standpoint, it makes sense to shutdown the studio. LucasArts hadn’t produced an outstanding title since Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. The sequel didn’t live up to expectations of consumers and The Old Republic hasn’t been doing too well either.
On the other hand, I would have loved to see Disney throw money towards the studio and commit to projects such as Star Wars 1313 and First Assault, two games which would have been awesome to play. I feel that given the money and the tools, this could have paid off for Disney, but who knows what’s in the grand scheme. We may see something around the time of Episode VII, or better yet, other developers may pick up the projects and deliver. They may be our only hope.
