Brief: HBO cancels “Enlightened” after two seasons

It has been confirmed by many news outlets that HBO has canceled their sophomore series Enlightened that starred Laura Dern. The series was barely renewed after a very soft first season, but because of Dern’s Golden Globe win and other critical acclaim, the premium channel gave the series another shot.

Unfortunately, the ratings didn’t rise, with HBO stating, “We’re proud of the show and we look forward to working with Mike White and Laura Dern in the future” and that canceling the series was “a very difficult decision.”

Following Amy (Dern), a woman in her 40s who returns to work after a brief stay in rehab, Enlightened also starred Luke Wilson, Diane Ladd (Dern’s real-life mother), Timm Sharp, and Sarah Burns.
