Spoiler Central: J.R.’s Exit on “Dallas”

TV Guide Magazine revealed finally how J.R. Ewing will meet his maker in the upcoming second season of TNT’s Dallas. Do you remember the “Who Shot J.R.?” phenomenon from the third season of the original series? Well the executive producers of the revival series hope its fresh in your minds.

After Larry Hagman sadly passed away on November 23rd, producers were trying to find the right way to lay the tragic character to rest during this second season. Hagman filmed five or six episodes before he died, and his character will meet his demise in the eighth.

“We all felt having J.R. die of natural causes would have been completely inappropriate, not only to the character, but also to Larry Hagman,” executive producer Cynthia Cidre shared.

According to Cidre, 80-90% of the season’s storylines were able to be salvaged, yet this new “Who Shot J.R.?” adds a new mystery that hopefully will draw new viewers and leave a fitting tribute to what Hagman created over 20 years ago.

Dallas returns Monday, January 28 at 9/8c on TNT with a two-hour season premiere.
