The hilariously funny Phyllis Diller passed away earlier today at the age of 95. Diller has appeared in dozens of television shows, movies, and performed on stage for decades. Her career of self-deprecating humor and trademark laugh helped make Diller a household name for many generations.
She was considered by some to be as insulting as Don Rickles, which has been described as rare among female comics. She paved the way for many of the female comics made popular today.
Many in Hollywood have taken to Twitter to express their condolences:
“We lost a comedy legend today. Phyllis Diller was the queen of the one-liners. She was a pioneer.” – Ellen Degeneres
“I adored her. She was a wondrous spirit who was great to me.” – Barbra Streisand
“Gonna miss Phyllis Diller. Rest in peace my friend. The world is a better place because of you. Happy Trails.” – Reba McEntire
