When NBC announced their midseason lineup, Prime Suspect was nowhere to be found. That doesn’t come to anyone’s surprise as the series has had many opportunities to find an audience, and hasn’t in any of those opportunities. Today, NBC has officially canned the series, which is based of the British series that starred Helen Mirren.
Production has been shut down, but NBC has said that all 13-episodes should air sometime this year. This version of Prime Suspect stars Maria Bello, Kirk Acevedo, and Aidan Quinn. The series felt dated when it first aired, and also felt like a clone of TNT’s The Closer. The TNT drama even has stated in the past that it was inspired by Prime Suspect.
NBC has had problems finding a police procedural ever the network canceled Law & Order a few years ago. Southland didn’t work for the network, Chase flopped bad, and doesn’t seem like there is much hope for the future.
