TNT has renewed Falling Skies for a second season. The sci-fi drama starring Noah Wyle follows a resistance team in Boston after an alien invasion hits. The series premiere debuted to almost 6 million people, which is big when you consider most of TNT’s dramas are police procedrals.
Wyle is second-in-command playing Tom Mason, a Boston University professor with the 2nd Mass being led by Captain Weaver (Will Patton). Mason’s middle son, Ben, is captured by the aliens and is forced to wear a spine harness that controls his mind. This is done to all the other children who are caught by “the skitters” as well.
Other stars include Moon Bloodgood and Sarah Carter with Steven Weber coming on as a recurring guest. The show then features an ensemble of lesser known actors to give the show a nice real feel (like District 9 or Cloverfield).
Falling Skies was the brain child of Robert Rodat and Steven Spielberg, who has Dreamworks Television producing the show. The first season was given a 10-episode order, and it appears that the second season will be the same.
