A&E has renewed its drama Breakout Kings for a second season. The series, which follows convicts (played by Malcolm Goodwin, Serinda Swan, and Jimmi Simpson) helping US Marshalls (portrayed by Laz Alonso and Domenick Lombardozzi) catch escaped cons, debuted strong this spring and held onto a sizeable audience during its initial 13-episode season.
The series is an indirect spinoff of Prison Break, and featured Robert Knepper as his character T-Bag from the series. Breakout Kings was created by producers of Prison Break, Nick Santora and Matt Olmstead, who also wrote for the series.
While Breakout Kings wasn’t as big of a hit as The Glades, it proved to be a successful companion series to A&E’s repeats of Criminal Minds. Production of the second season will begin later this year.
