Production of the huge superhero film The Avengers started yesterday, directed by Joss Whedon and starring Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man),  Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Captain America), and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk). Take a look at the first image of the set below:

The film also welcomes new stars Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye and Cobie Smulders as Marina Hill. Returning actors from previous films are Scarlett Johansson, Clark Gregg, Tom Hiddleston, and Stellan Skarsgård. The Avengers will hit theaters on May 4, 2012.
