Many people have been offered the lead for the next Bourne installment to the franchise, including Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy), Dominic Cooper (Mamma Mia), and Joel Edgerton (Animal Kingdom). Now, reports have come in about two-time Oscar nominee Jeremy Renner has officially been offered the role.
Renner has previously starred in films such as The Hurt Locker and The Town, both of which he was nominated for. He is currently working on the next Mission: Impossible installment and is starring as Hawkeye in both Thor and The Avengers films. It would be nice to see an actor of this caliber get more recognition here, and it would be interesting to see him in more physical roles such as M:I and Bourne.
If cast in the new Bourne film, Renner will play an operative from a covert government program more dangerous than the brainwashing program Treadstone, that created Bourne in the beginning. Writer/director Tony Gilroy is set to direct the film having scribed the previous trilogy and is planning for an August 2012 release.
