Film and television star Maria Bello has been cast as the lead in NBC’s remake of Prime Suspect. The show originated in the UK with Dame Helen Mirren playing the lead role. Bello has major shoes to fill as the UK series has been held in high regard since it left the airways in 1996 (as well as the mini-series follow ups).

The show has been described as following an “iconoclastic female detective who has to make her bones in a tough New York precinct that is dominated by men.” Bello is no stranger to NBC either as she appeared on ER as well as a guest arc on Law & Order: SVU. This will be the first major series she has taken a lead in.
