Take it for what its worth, but Nickelodeon has renewed SpongeBob Squarepants for a ninth season consisting of 26 episodes. This will push the series over 200 episodes, and tie it with the same amount of seasons as their 90’s hit Rugrats.
Debuting in 1999, SpongeBob Squarepants has been the #1 animated kids series for kids 2-11 for ten consecutive years. The show soared into high popularity in the middle of the 2000’s and has been a mainstay at Nickelodeon since. The show has spawned a theatrical movie and many other direct-to-DVD releases.
Season eight of SpongeBob is scheduled to air throughout this year, while season nine should hit airwaves sometime in 2012.
