NBC has been looking for someone to replace Steve Carell on the hit show, The Office, as this will be his last season. Reports had come in saying that the show’s creator, Ricky Gervais, was considering taking the position…though he immediately denied the rumor.
Today we get news that the show’s executive producer, Paul Lieberstein, has revealed that he wants Harvey Keitel (National Treasure movies, Reservoir Dogs) to replace Carell.
"He’s probably the only guy who can do it, and he’s doing TV now," said Lieberstein. "I haven’t started any talks with his people, but Harvey would do a great job — a very different energy. And we don’t want to bring in another Michael, having someone play a very similar character because we have such a high regard for Steve."
Lieberstein even has a backstory for Keitel’s character. "He’s an old salesman who thought he could retire and the stock market went down," he explained. "And he has to come out of retirement to work for a few years."
