‘Mission: Impossible 4’ Gets New Title, Adds Jeremy Renner

Screening Hurt Locker Arrivals pIBGuK_47KQl The Mission: Impossible series is looking to reboot or ‘re-launch’ its series by giving it a new name and a new face. While Tom Cruise will still be involved, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) will play his apprentice and will eventually take over the franchise after Cruise exits. Other actors that were up for the part were Chris Pine, Tom Hardy, Christopher Egan, and Renner’s Hurt Locker co-star, Anthony Mackie.

Jeremy Renner has recently been hot off of his Best Actor nomination for The Hurt Locker and has also snagged the part of Hawkeye in The Avengers film. His part in the M:I series is posted as second lead along with Cruise, both of which will share equal screen time. In future films, Renner would play the lead while Cruise will play a supporting, mentor-like role.

Another piece of news is that the series is taking notes from the Batman franchise (with The Dark Knight) and not including the words “Mission: Impossible” in the title. While there is no news yet on what the film will actually be called (Mission: Possible, maybe?), you will get any updates here as soon as we get them. JJ Abrams, director of the third (and best) installment will produce the film, and Brad Bird (The Incredibles) will direct.

So what do you guys think, is Renner a good pick for the American James Bond?
