USA Network has kept mum on the future for Law & Order: Criminal Intent with possibilities of one more season, two more, cancellation, or the more likely truncated 8 episode season. Either way, the series will have to do it without Jeff Goldblum. With the series hitting ratings lows this year and Goldblum switching managers, it seemed obvious that he would pursue other career paths.
The new word on the street is that they plan on replacing Goldblum with the person he replaced, Vincent D’Onofrio. While this will please fans of the series immensely, it remains to be seen how they would do this since D’Onofrio’s character was ‘fired’ from the NYPD when his character left.
USA didn’t like the switching detectives every week (D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe one week and Jeff Goldblum and Julianne Nicholson the other), and decided to go with just Goldblum. However, fans didn’t like Goldblum or his new partner, played by Saffron Burrows and felt the show might’ve jumped the shark.
