This weekend belongs to the dreamers. It comes as no surprise that the number one movie in America is Inception. Nabbing over $60.4 million this weekend, the film beat Despicable Me by nearly half. The Steve Carell film brought in $32.7 million this past weekend, which is a modest 42% drop from its opening last week. However, the major disappointment came with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice that stars Nicholas Cage. The crew behind the film is the same from his National Treasure movies, however, this one has fared far less than those films. Apprentice brought in only $17.3 million, a big disaster for the amount of advertising and production put forth from Disney.
The Twilight Saga: Eclipse ($13.5 million) and Toy Story 3 ($11.7 million) round out the top five. Toy Story 3 has passed Finding Nemo as the highest grossing Pixar movie, bringing in over $362.7 million domestic. However, it doesn’t look like Eclipse will pass New Moon as it is still trailing the latter film by nearly $30 million.
