The upcoming Christopher Nolan (Dark Knight) film, Inception, has poured out a number of highly positive reviews this past week. This is really no surprise to me, with a business steeped in remakes, sequels, and reboots, Christopher Nolan is one of the very few directors out there looking to make something truly original.
The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer), Ellen Page (Juno), Tom Hardy (Bronson), Michael Caine (Dark Knight), Cillian Murphy (Red Eye, Batman Begins), Marion Cotillard (Public Enemies), and Ken Watanabe (Last Samurai). It has been described as a heist flick taking place inside the mind. From what I know about Nolan’s films and have read about Inception so far, this is a film you want to go in knowing nothing on. The recent reviews say it pays off.
The film hits theaters July 16th everywhere. Here are a few quotes from the recent reviews of the upcoming film:
A devilishly complicated, fiendishly enjoyable sci-fi voyage across a dreamscape that is thoroughly compelling.” – Hollywood Reporter
If movies are shared dreams, then Christopher Nolan is surely one of Hollywood’s most inventive dreamers, given the evidence of his commandingly clever Inception.”
I expected a lot, but still walked out hypnotized. Here’s a movie that’s 3 steps ahead of you, on 4 different levels, at 5 blinding speeds. Best of 2010 thus far.” – Techland
A wildly entertaining and dazzling mind-trip not to be missed. Kubrick would have been proud.” – Boxoffice Magazine
There are many other reviews up online if the film has not already peaked your interest. Full reviews delve deeper into the quality of Nolan’s direction/screenplay, as well as Wally Pfister’s cinematography and DiCaprio’s performance. Look for my review on July 16th as I already have tickets for the midnight showing opening night. Depending on my reaction to the film, I will see it at least once more to fully gauge my response to it.
