Release News: “The Middle” Season 1

Unless you lived under a rock last year, you knew that ABC helped bring back the sitcom last year with their Wednesday comedy block. One of the series, The Middle, will be released on DVD on August 31st. The series stars Patricia Heaton and Neil Flynn and was a favorite amongst critics. All 24 episodes can be yours soon along with great bonus features:

  • Raising a Sitcom Family: Series Creators Recount the History and Development of This Unique Comedy About Small-Town Life in the Midwest
  • Sue’s Best Shots: Sue’s Hilarious School Photos Provide the Springboard for Cast and Crew to Recall Their Own School Photo Experiences
  • Unaired Scenes
  • Gag Reel

The studio description follows:

Welcome to Orson, Indiana, home of the world’s largest polyurethane cow and TV’s funniest new family: the Hecks. ¬†Patricia Heaton (Everybody Loves Raymond) makes a triumphant return to the family sitcom as Frankie Heck, a harried wife and working mother of three who uses her wry wit and sense of humor to try to get her family through each day intact. Neil Flynn (Scrubs) stars as her sardonic husband Mike, helping Frankie navigate hanging-on-to-middle-class life without a GPS app. The series also stars Charlie McDermott (The Office, Frozen River), Eden Sher (Sons & Daughters, Weeds), Atticus Shaffer (Hancock, The Class) and Chris Kattan (Saturday Night Live).

Get in touch with the lively three-disc, 24-episode first season of one of TV’s most refreshing and relatable family comedies which USA Today called a “perfectly timed, down-to-earth comedy. A smart, amusing sitcom that understands the damage cutbacks have done to folks in the middle.”

Season one of The Middle aired as part of ABC’s successful Wednesday night comedy block as a lead-in to Modern Family. Season one guest stars include Betty White (The Golden Girls), Brooke Shields (Lipstick Jungle), Amy Sedaris (Strangers with Candy), Alexa Vega (Spy Kids) and Marsha Mason (The Goodbye Girl). This fall, it will return to kick off the comedy block at 8 PM as a lead-in to Warner Bros. Television’s new romantic comedy Better Together.

The Middle was created and executive produced by Eileen Heisler and DeAnn Heline (Roseanne, Murphy Brown, How I Met Your Mother) and produced by Blackie and Blondie Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television.
