Reports have begun circulating today that next season will be series star Steve Carell’s last on the NBC comedy, The Office. In an interview with a BBC radio interview for his new film Date Night, Carell mentions that next season (the show’s seventh) is his last under contract for the series, and it will probably be his last. While this is big news for the show, it’s ratings have dipped during this past season and could turn to be a good ending point for the series.
Series focuses on the offices of Dunder Mifflin, a paper supply company. The show also stars Rainn Wilson (The Rocker), John Krasinski (It’s Complicated, Away We Go), Jenna Fischer (Blades of Glory), among others. The Office is currently in it’s sixth season and is NBC’s highest rated comedy.
Carell has starred in films such as Bruce Almighty, Evan Almighty, Dan in Real Life, and Get Smart. He was a contributing reporter for a few seasons on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart before he received the role on the series.
The Office currently airs on Thursdays on NBC at 9:00 PM.
